Well, I suppose timing is everything. Times change, and we may just have more poorly constructed products in everything, even a good-old name brand like ShopVac.
This product seems to work well, with good suction, but the hose is a bit flimsy compared with my grandpa's shopvac and gets clogged more easily (the hose itself).

This is by far the best ShopVac I have ever owned. Solid Construction, power beyond power, I mean this vac really sucks, but in a good way, if I had to complain about anything, it would be the crappy pattern for putting the wheels on with, really they could have put the little marks on the tank, but no they give you this cheesy paper cut out and you do the rest, and I am still not sure if wheels "A" and "B" are in the right cosmic location, but what the heck, it rolls. Heavy duty Stainless Steel tank, lots of power, extra long cord, this thing just says "make a hell of a mess, I got you covered".
P.s. it uses both small 1.25" hose and larger 2.5" hose, only comes with small hose, and sadly it does not come with the really cool brush, but comes with every other attachment :)

Just received my Shop-Vac 5866100 8-Gallon 5.5-Peak HP Stainless Steel Wet/Dry Vacuum the other day. I was surprised when it arrived packaged only in the original showroom sales carton with no packing protection at all. Turned out, this was not really a problem, as it did arrive undamaged. I also bought at the same time the mini 2.5 peak HP vacuum. The small one arrived in a properly packed carton with padding. Also, the smaller one included more and better attachments than the larger one. Interesting, but no biggie.
The real kicker is that I can't notice any suction difference between the two units even though the larger one is rated 3 HP higher. Not happy with the suction of the larger unit. The problem is that it comes with a narrow 1.25 hose, nozzel and wands which are constantly jamming due mostly to the weak suction.
I imagine that if I were just vacuuming dust, it probably would be usable. But, I have 4 large labradors who shed enough hair weekly to knit a whole new dog. Plus, the younger ones like to chew paper and plastic cups/water bottles into small 2-3" pieces. This is mainly why I bought the larger model, to pick up this debris. Due to the hose's narrow diameter, I have to stop and unclog it and/or the tools every couple of minutes. Not good, and very frustrating. Plan to return the unit immediately.
UPDATE: Changed my rating from 1-star to 3-stars. Well, on a hunch, I swapped out the 1.25" hose and replaced it with a 2.5" hose (the intake hole is big enough to do this). Wow, what a difference. Suction is phenomenal and no more clogs. If only it had shipped with the larger hose and tools, and if it had been better packaged for shipping, I would have given this a 5-star rating. With the larger hose kit, I'd happily recommend this product to anyone. :)
